Who we are
Comic Maker is a small family project, made by a parent for kids and their grown-ups. Questions? Email hello@kidscomicmaker.com.
What we keep
- The parent's Google email address and name, only to know whose comics they are. We never see your Google password.
- The date you agreed to the note for grown-ups.
- Your child's drawings, the story chat (after it has been cleaned, see below), character names, and the comics and saved characters made from them.
- A sign-in cookie called
cm_session. It keeps you signed in. (While you sign in with Google, a second short-lived cookie is used for a few minutes to keep that step safe.) We use no other cookies. - A record of each AI call (the date, what kind, how long it took and what it cost), so we can keep costs under control and set daily limits. It holds no drawings or words. When an account is deleted, these records stay, but no longer point to anyone.
Kids' privacy
- Kids don't get accounts. A parent signs in and uses Comic Maker together with their child.
- We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
- Names, schools, places, phone numbers and email addresses typed in the story chat are replaced with general words before the chat is saved. To do that, the message is sent once to Anthropic.
- A character can be given any name, so please don't use a child's full name.
- If you think we have a child's personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Buddy is an AI
Buddy, the story helper, is Claude, an AI made by Anthropic. It can get things wrong. Please stay nearby while your child chats.
Who helps run it
- Google: sign-in.
- Fly.io: the servers (in the US).
- Cloudflare: backups (in the US), and our domain and email forwarding.
- Anthropic: Buddy, the story and the plan for each page.
- OpenAI: the pictures.
Drawings and stories go to Anthropic and OpenAI only to make your comic. Under their business (API) terms they don't use it to train their models, and they may keep it for up to about 30 days to check for misuse.
What we don't do
- No ads.
- No analytics or trackers.
- We don't sell your data or share it for marketing.
- We don't train our own models on your comics.
Do Not Track: there is nothing to turn off, because we don't track you across sites.
Who can see comics
Only the parent's account. The person who runs Comic Maker may look at a comic to fix a problem.
How long we keep it, and deleting
- We keep it until you delete it.
- To delete one comic, use "Delete this comic".
- To delete everything, go to My account, then "Delete my account". It's deleted 14 days later (sign in before then to keep it), and it leaves our backups within 7 more days.
- Fly.io's server logs include IP addresses and are kept for a short time.
- Or just email us and we'll do it.
Where
Your data is kept in the US only.
Changes
If this page changes, we'll update it and the date. For big changes we'll ask you to agree again the next time you sign in.
